Little pieces of big trees
Turning wood scraps into tokens of positive change, one mass timber building at a time.
Timber construction is great, but what about the waste?
Haven’t heard of Mass Timber construction? Look it up, it’s pretty cool. What’s not as cool is the waste that comes out of it. Also not super cool is how much carbon us humans pump into the atmosphere via construction and building operations (also worth looking up). So naturally, the scraps from wood buildings could be a vessel for planting trees!
Here’s the short:
01: Manufacturing
Glulam columns and beams are produced longer than the final cut dimensions needed for a building.
02: Fabrication
Beams and columns are cut down to the designed length, resulting in thin slices of timber members (offcuts) that are typically considered waste.
03: Modifications
Offcuts are made into artifacts and prepared for sale.
04: Allocations
In the future, each building project is analyzed to find appropriate community groups that might not benefit from the project otherwise. For now, we’re planting more trees!
05: Bag it, Tag it, Distribute
Products are purchased and delivered to participants. Funds are distributed.
06: Repeat
Feedback is incorporated into the next round to improve products and workflow of distributions
